the final countdown
Can you hear those keyboards blaring from one of the 80′s awesome hair band’s pinnacle of achievement sometimes referred to as “one hit wonder?” Unlike Europe, still the band I’m talking about here stay with me people, I am beginning my final countdown to 40. Yes, my one hit wonder of becoming forty years of age (you’re only 40 once) is going to be legendary. Like many people I have read of lately I have a plan to celebrate this achievement just like them. I’m going to run a marathon. You see a little something about me is that I have always been a runner even though I never ran for any organized activity. I have always enjoyed running for the just because. When I was in the Army running was more intensified with beach runs and partaking in “beat the general” runs. Back in those days I would run 6:28 miles. Those were the days. Over the past couple of years I’ve let myself go and it’s time to get back to my roots. Recently my wife’s college buddy flew in from Chicago to run the Cleveland marathon which we made signs to show support and cheer him on. And like a ton of bricks falling from a barrel it hit me. I’m 38 years old and you should run the Cleveland marathon at 40. That is exactly what I working on now. I’m starting slowly by going with the “Couch to 5k” approach. If you follow me on twitter you may have seen my tweets about this. I installed the app on my phone which then allows you to tweet when you are complete each workout session. It’s going well so far. On the upcoming father’s day there is a run in Shaker Heights that has 1 and 5 mile runs. Insanely I have decided to go for the 5 mile run. Perhaps my body will get the better of me and slap me into the mile run… I probably should lose a few more pounds before I punish my body into attempting anything longer than 3 miles at this point. What do you think? One final note is that before the big full marathon I’m going to run the half marathon here in Cleveland. Again, I think my old bones need to ease into these plans.
Stay tuned.
