Designer’s Block

I decided awhile ago that my website was getting long in the tooth and in desparate need of a little TLC or rather a new design. Being in this field for the past 13 years professionally I was certain that it would be an easy task. Installed WordPress because how can I call myself a web designer when my website was stuck in a 1999 time warp? Of course that was the easy part. The difficult came with designing my new site. Being borderline AADD I had tons of ideas, but nothing that really grabbed my brain by the creative horns and proclaimed its rightful stake to being worthy. There lies the issue. I feel that as a designer, a well seasoned one at that, we are own worst enemy. With a clean slate and being your own client is a challenge. It is designer’s block!

One of the things I knew for certain was that I am not a “filter” or “Photoshop jockey” and that I practice simple is better when it comes to design. This is yet another layer of difficulty to designing. Designing simple effectively is more difficult to attain than anything else and this also lead to my big mental roadblock.

Why is it so difficult to design for yourself as the client? Am I the only one that feels this way? Thoughts?

The bottom line is that I am certain my current design that you see is far from complete and will change, but at least I got it past the first bump!
